Transcript of Of Mice and Men: Thesis Statement Argument 1: An Exploration of the Theme of Friendship Sai Namathirtham The theme of friendship is explored through the unusual bond of George and Lennie , as friendships were uncommon in the time of the book. Despite the hardship they face, these men stick together and use each other for company, just like friends do.

These men look out for each other on their journey as Lennie states "I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you. We got a future. We have somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. George and Lennie stay together because of their dream of self-sustenance and their need for each other. George and Lennie's Relationship Argument 2: Unlike the other ranch workers, George and Lennie will sacrifice their job if it is means that they could stay together on their journey.

The men on the ranch are astounded at these men and the friendship between them. They have never seen people that depend on each other to survive.

Slim is one of the ranch workers who is amazed by the relationship of these two men as he states that the other workers "never seemed to give a damn about nobody.

George and Lennie's Differences From the Other Ranch Workers In short, these men are different because of their idea of the survival of the fittest and their lack of sociability and hospitality. A minute passed, and another minute. Lennie and Candy's Dog Lennie and Candy's dog are connected in the book, as they are both considered "worthless".

Can you remember that? It is inspiring to see a tremendous friendship bloom in such a despairing time. Another way the two thrive is through their dream. This dream is a recurring theme in this novella and it symbolizes hope. There is some irony in there being so much optimism in two migrant, low class workers but the two make it work. By keeping this dream alive the two have something to work for, something to put their fifty dollars a month towards.

This dream also serves as quite the problem solver for the two. Each time Lennie gets into trouble, George ends up worrying about the consequences. Lennie puts George at ease by reminding him of the dream and George always ends up forgiving Lennie. Forgiveness is how Lennie and George can keep their friendship going and continue their journey towards the dream. The story is very centered around the problems Lennie creates and how George tries to fix it. Of Mice and Men — Friendship.
